Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and Cerebral Palsy Research

Mr. Gross and Dr. Vesoulis will host a town hall style meeting to discuss the ethics of using artificial intelligence in cerebral palsy research.
Next Monday, February 24, at 8 pm the Cerebral Palsy Research Network will host a town hall on the ethics of using artificial intelligence (AI) to make new discoveries and predictions in cerebral palsy. We will also be gathering your thoughts about the use of AI in medicine, the ownership of data, and informed consent practices.
The CP Research Network is actively pursuing grant opportunities using AI to make health outcome predictions from clinical data. Last year we hosted a webinar describing some of our initial goals for machine learning (a form of AI) from the data in our registry, neurological imaging and other data like genetics. The format of this town hall will be similar at the start to our MyCP webinars – we will provide an overview of our planned research in lay friendly educational terms. We will then have questions for attendees to hear about your thoughts, hopes and concerns you may have about the use of this powerful technology.
Dr. Zach Vesoulis, a neonatologist at Washington University in St. Louis, will provide the overview of AI and how we seek to use it in CP. Our CEO, Paul Gross, will facilitate the discussion with our community attendees. Mr. Gross will represent the findings from this town hall during a panel presentation at a workshop organized by the National Institutes of Health on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine next month.
