Unlocking Answers and Transforming Care through Genomics

We have adorned our logo a hint of the double helix to denote this special genetic causes of CP series.
Recent research shows that identifying a genetic cause for a person’s CP can change care recommendations nearly 30% of the time. This series provides a “Town Hall” style forum where community members, clinicians, and industry experts can come together to learn and discuss these breakthroughs.
Why This Series Matters
For decades, cerebral palsy was often viewed through a narrow lens of birth-related injury. Today, we know that genetics play a significant role for many individuals. This series aims to:
- Empower Families: Transition from the “diagnostic odyssey” to clear answers. When to consider genetics testing, how to get it and what to expect.
- Importance of a Dual Diagnosis: How does having a diagnosis of cerebral palsy and genetic anomaly help a family get services, find community, and change the course of care.
- Inform Clinicians: Understand the latest findings that are shifting clinical care pathways and when patients should be considered for genetic testing.
- Connect the Community: Hear first-hand accounts from families who have used genetic testing to gain clarity, find additional supporting organizations and improve their quality of care.
Each webinar will feature a different clinician researcher engaged with the CP Research Network that cares for people with CP who will share about their diagnostic approach and how the advances in research affect their care. The physician will be followed by a parent or person with CP sharing their journey with getting a genetic diagnosis. We will share resources from the gene specific organizations where appropriate. Where supported, we will share the programs including genetic testing and counseling providing by industry partners.
2026 Series Schedule
This series runs approximately every other month throughout 2026 starting Wednesday, February 25, 2026 and is sponsored by GeneDx, a leader in rare disease diagnosis and improving health through the power of genomic data. The remaining webinars will be in April, June, August, October and December. The speakers and partners will be announced closer to each webinar.
People interested in the series can sign up using the form.
