“Off label” prescription

« Back to Glossary Index

“Off label” prescription refers to the use of a medication outside the specifications outlined in the FDA’s approved medication packaging label, or insert. “Off-label” prescribing is legal and very common. Off label use of drugs can be beneficial, especially when patients have exhausted all other proven options. However, it is important to discuss potential risks/benefits with your medical team.
