Nissen fundoplication is a surgical procedure used to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD) and Hiatal Hernias. It is used to treat GERD when all other interventions have failed. The procedure involves wrapping the upper end of the stomach around the lower end of the esophagus and then stitched into place therefore reinforcing the closing ability of the esophageal sphincter.
