Neonatal Intensive Care Units

Neonatal Intensive Care Units or NICUs are we babies are hospitalized if they are born prematurely, have birth trauma, or anything that appears to be significantly abnormal upon delivery. The gestational age, or the number of weeks in utero, is often used as a term to describe these babies. The primary physician associated with the NICU is the neonatologist though there are often neonatal neurologists that get involved with a babies birth if they are transferred to the NICU.
